- The most futuristic debates – Can a mikvah be built on the International Space Station? May metals from Mars be used to build a mikvah?
- The oldest debate on record, between Yitzchak Avinu and the shepherds of Gerar - 3,600 years ago, the question was: how can you tell if a mikvah’s water comes from a nearby river or from some other source?
- The most controversial debate - 400 years ago, in Rovigo, Italy, the brothers Consiglio argued how to fill the mikvah in their yard: and before the debate was over, rabbis from across the world, from Eretz Yisrael to Prague, had authored hundreds of pages in defense of each side!
This sefer explores how these debates (and others) shape our understanding of the nine basic rules for building a mikvah; how they inspire and enlighten us about the importance of purity and immersion; and how they enhance our relationship with Hashem.

72 Virgins: Countdown to a terror Attack on US Soil
90 Seconds: The Epic Story of Eli Beer and United Hatzalah
An Israeli child is born in a Ukrainian bomb shelter -- and United Hatzalah brings her home under fire ...
A United Hatzalah volunteer scales a 12-foot-wall – and is the first to respond to the tragedy of Meron ...
Eli Beer, founder of United Hatzalah, slips and breaks his leg racing to an emergency -- and manages to crawl to the choking child and save her life ...
The amazing work of Israel’s United Hatzalah began, incredibly, when five-year-old Eli Beer witnessed a terror attack and dreamed of being the one to save the victim. While still a young teen, Eli set out to make that dream come true, creating an underground network of pioneering EMTs who were determined to bring their life-saving skills to victims in only 90 seconds, no matter where they were.
90 Seconds is the story of how a boy who failed in school created one of the world’s largest all-volunteer emergency service. It’s the story of dramatic rescues, sometimes under fire. Of life-changing and life-saving innovations such as the “ambucycle.” Of bringing United Hatzalah’s lifesaving experience to Nepal, Haiti, and, most recently, Ukraine, and their heart-rending rescue work in the Surfside and Versailles wedding hall tragedies.
It is the story of how with determination, vision, self-sacrifice and compassion -- and, of course, siyata D’Shmaya (the help of Heaven) -- lives can be saved and dreams can come true.
Rabbinic literature is called the Oral Law, because it is not found in the text of the Bible. It was preserved as oral statements that originated with the giving of the Torah and became the focus of study and deliberation throughout the generations. The Oral Law comprises explanations of biblical verses, ancient halakhic traditions not rooted in the text of the Bible, and rabbinic ordinances enacted throughout the generations. Since the scope of rabbinic literature is enormous, this work is limited to citing the Mishna, the Babylonian Talmud and the Jerusalem Talmud, the minor tractates, and the aggadic Midrash primarily Midrash Rabba and Midrash Tanhuma. The basis of this anthology is largely the aggadic material in the Talmud and in the various works of aggadic Midrash. The matters included here serve as commentary on the written Torah. Features: -Introductions and explanations that place talmudic and midrashic passages in context -Talmudic discussions broken down to component parts to aid comprehension -Full integration with other Concise Guide volumes The Erez Series is comprised of the Concise Guides to the full gamut of Jewish thought, from the Torah to modern halakha (Jewish law) and Mahshava (Jewish philosophy). The late Rabbi Adin Even Israel Steinsaltz zt'l was one of the leading thinkers of the modern age and the most prolific author of Jewish thought and commentary since the middle ages. The Erez Series distills the essence of 4 of the principal schools of the Jewish tradition Torah, the Sages (Hazal), Halakha, and Mahshava as a tool for review or introduction to the world of Jewish thought.
Have you ever seen something in a new light, to the point that you can't remember how you ever understood it before?
Have you ever taken a few moments to 'look a little deeper'?
For twenty-three years, Rabbi Judah Gross has been asking good questions, finding impressive answers, and collecting fascinating ideas.
In this unique and impressive work, for the first time, his insights are available to all.
The purpose of this book is to present you with a cast of characters who are defined by the Torah as your role models. Their voices are in the Text, the Midrash, the Talmud, the works of the earlier and later scholars, and the fruit of the pens of greats of the last centuries.
Will we ever understand their true greatness? The answer is, of course, no. The women depicted will always remain beyond your reach and mine; their spiritual stature places them beyond our limited vision. Nonetheless, the Torah presents them for us to learn from their lives. To do so, you must learn to listen and then to step back with the recognition that you have at best heard the echo of their voices.
A Distant Mirror is structured to give you the information presented in the text under the heading, "What Does It Say?" Next, you will find a taste of what the commentators tell you, under the heading, "What Does It Mean?" And finally, essays on practical ways in which you can bring these women into your lives as your role models under the heading, "What Does This Mean for You?" along with true stories of how other women did just that.
Rebbetzin Tziporah Heller, popular teacher, lecturer, and Hamodia columnist, is the author of Battle Plans (with Sara Yocheved Rigler), Return, You Are Here, Let's Face It!, Our Bodies Our Souls, The Balancing Act, This Way Up, and More Precious Than Pearls.
"A Distant Mirror, by Rebbetzin Tziporah Heller, is a guidebook for life, with many wonderful insights and messages for women as well as for men on how to deal with life's various situations.
The book is full of profound insights into the human personality and conveys a tremendous optimism and belief that people can reach their potential for greatness."
